Psychology, culture, and creativity meet where people begin to reimagine their lives.

I am a cultural psychologist, educator, and multidisciplinary artist whose work examines how identity, culture, and creativity shape psychological life and human resilience.

Trained in clinical psychology at the University of Rhode Island (Ph.D., 2000), my scholarship has examined depression and anxiety, trauma, and the ways broader social and cultural systems influence mental health. My research has been published in peer-reviewed journals and cited more than 890 times.

Over the course of my career, I have taught and developed courses for more than 5,000 undergraduate and graduate students, grounding academic inquiry in lived experience, meaning, and representation.

As a multi-disciplinary creative, I am also a writer, painter, singer-songwriter, and host of the podcast Transforming Minds with Dr. Brian, where psychology meets culture and everyday life.

An early recipient of the NIMHD Health Disparities Scholar Award (2002), my work has consistently centered on expanding representation, deepening empathy, and amplifying historically marginalized voices.

In this next chapter, I am blending psychology, culture, and art in new ways through travel, writing, and creative practice.

Warmly,
Brian
